Forget cubic feet. Who’s hauling 34.6 cubic feet of anything? I want to know, can my car hold four full-sized tires? Because that’s useful.
My wagon holds them so neatly, I only needed a little padding to keep them from moving around. It’s extremely convenient to carry 4 tires and still fit both kids in the back seat and my basic stuff for work.
On that topic, roof boxes should be measured in “pairs of skis” or something; again, I have no idea about cubic feet up there. All I know is I can fit 7 pairs of normal adult-sized skis. That’s a useful number to know.
I’m ready for winter! You can see it came anyway, I’m a bit behind.

I got 4 tires (mounted on wheels) into my 335xi coupe. The trunk can fit 1 and the other 3 just barely fit in the back seat. Maybe next time I’d try folding down the seats.

In the past I have fit 4 wheels and 4 tires separately in the Magnum. Ive also fit 4 full size tires for the Magnum, as well as 4 full size tires for a Mini Cooper. My sisters and I fully believe in winter tires, so a couple times a year there are tire runs.

Car and Driver used to do it in cases of beer. I thought that was a good measurement.

A 2007 Saab 9-3 sedan can hold four full size tires (255-40-17) and four tires mounted on wheels of the same size with the rear seats folded down.
This should be the new standard cargo measurement unit for Oppo.

It would be unbelieveably annoying if I couldn’t fit 4 tires in my car with my kids at the same time.

I always struggled to figure out the best configuration with my old Accord sedan... seats down doesn’t really matter because you can’t use the back seat either way. If I had to do that now, it would mean two trips because my kids are in my backseat every morning and afternoon.

My car can fit a full set of tires in the trunk, though a little bit of trickery is required to make the 4th one fit through the trunk opening.

Indeed, another practical measurement. I actually filled the bed of my truck with cases of beer, for my wedding. Not filled to the top, but we covered the whole floor of an 8' bed. I can’t remember the number but that may be related.

Yeah I call BS on cubic feet. Unless our luggage is all gas or liquid this 4 cubic feet is useless:

I think along with the CF they could list maximum spherical object, maximum cargo space length. Those two numbers would provide a lot of context.

The cargo capacity of the Magnum is funky because the rear hatch isnt square or flat like yours. Wheels alone are no issue, but my tires are really big, so I usually fold the seats down and play it safe. The Mini tires are so tiny they fit no problem, even in the trunk of the Mini.
Magnum is running 235/55R18 up front and 255/55R18 out back. Admittedly, theyre pretty big tires for a passenger car.

I believe I have had 8 total tires mounted on wheels all in my wagon at once, with the seats down of course. This was in my attempt to keep the best wheels and tires of the 16 total I had when I had both my current car and the old one, another identical model. The new car came with summer and winter sets, some good, some bad, so there was a lot of swapping around before selling the old car.

Those are big... but I think it plays well with the overall propotions of the Magnum. It’s an interesting car for sure. Mine are very ordinary 205/55/16 which is shared with the jetta, civic, corolla, volvo S40, and about a million other small-ish cars. It does make it easy to buy/sell on Craigslist which is handy.

My friend used to talk about how the trunk of his Grand Marquis had a capacity of 6 bodies (or something like that). He wanted to test it one time but nobody wants to climb into the trunk of a car with 5 other dudes.

Indeed, it’s my second in a row actually. Manual transmission also, yay.
I haul firewood, trash, rocks, tires, bikes, dogs, everything in the back of this car. You can see that fabric thing, that’s an old boat cover (just the bow area of a small open-bow boat) which is ideal for keeping crap out of the car, it’s heavy vinyl on the backside and generally waterproof. It’s made me want to make a custom one and install snaps to really hold it in place... but I just keep using this.

I’m not planning to do it often. I bought the car in May and also bought 19" wheels with summer tires. I had the stock 18" wheels with all-season tires sitting in my garage. Had to bring them to the tire shop to get winter tires mounted on them. The guy at the tire shop did not arrange my 19s in the seat as well as I did, he had them vertical so they were flopping around as I drove. Luckily it was a short trip home. But I have a floor jack and can swap wheels & tires pretty quick so I won’t have to keep loading them in the car just to swap summer/winter tires.

Yes! It is so nice to be able to put on snow tires (by swapping wheels) by yourself whenever you feel like it.
